Roof Eaves

Eaves are the lower section of the roof that extends over the walls of the building. They effectively allow water to drain beyond the walls to keep excess from running down the building and adversely affecting the sidings life span. In buildings where there are extended eaves they do well to keep walkways close to the building protected from rainfall. You will find soffit vents being housed in the eaves, as they effectively shelter these openings.

The fascia board is also attached to the eaves, which is the board running horizontally along the building, with its flat side facing outward. This allows for the attachment of gutters. In some architecture eaves may contribute to overall aesthetics of a building with the addition of decorative support brackets.
